Your home is the most valuable investment you will make in your lifetime. A home serves dual functions—it protects you from the elements while securing you your own living space, and it becomes a financial asset. Maintaining the function of your home and curbside appearances are very important to enhancing the comforts of your home and protecting your investment. One of the most important but often overlooked components of your home is window screens and door screens. Screens protect us from pollen, bugs, flying insects, and unwanted stray animals from entering the home while safely containing your pets indoors and allowing fresh air in. Homes with tattered screens or without screens have less resale value and make it difficult to enjoy the outdoor garden smells and breezes. Attractive screens are permanently fixed window treatments that make a huge impact on your home’s curb appeal and value.
When looking to purchase screens or replacement screens for your home, there are a few important things to keep in mind. Most importantly, determine the function of the screen you need to purchase and its aesthetic effect on your home. Then, consider purchasing screens that suit the needs of your family and the climate of your area. For example, if you have children and/or pets, it is wise to consider purchasing pet proof screens for your patio sliding screen doors and window screens. Toddlers are hard on door screens by pounding and leaning on them, while pets cause damage by clawing on them and tearing them. If you are looking for pool or patio screening, look for fabric that is resistant to bacteria, fungus, and mildew, characteristic to humid areas. On the other hand, for windows in arid climate that are overly exposed to direct sunlight and produce heat, solar screens or interior/exterior window shades are ideal to filter out and diffuse direct sunlight or block out sunlight altogether. For arid climate, you want to purchase screen fabric that is resistant to fading and tearing, thus eliminating flaking and brittleness caused by daily exposure to the sun in dry climate. Don’t buy the cheapest screens that could quickly fall apart if the fabric does not suit your need or climate. You could end up paying more money in the long run, because you will have to replace the screen fabric more frequently. It is better to spend a little extra money up front to buy good quality screens that will hold up and dress your windows while enhancing the appearance and function of your home. Regardless of your individual needs, we have the perfect screen for you at bargain prices.

Now that hot summer days are just around the corner, it would be wise to summer proof your home. During the summer, direct sunlight produces heat inside our homes, and fades flooring, furniture, pictures, etc. Assess your home now and take notice of the windows that allow too much direct sun light into your home. Consider your options to save on energy and protect your furnishings while enhancing your home aesthetically at the same time. You might consider installing solar window roller shades to diffuse light and reduce sun glare as you control temperatures inside your home and save on energy. Sun control fabrics effectively provide energy efficient solutions by reducing the amount of solar heat gain. Studies have shown that solar screen fabrics effectively reduce the temperature of a room without the use of air conditioning, and sun management can utilize natural light for a beautiful design. Lighter color fabrics reflect the sun’s rays and illuminate the interior with just the right amount of light, while darker fabrics provide a great view to the outside and absorb light. Darker fabrics are ideal for managing sun light and viewing computer and television screens.
BestWindowScreen.com carries very stylish solar fabrics for window roller shades at very affordable prices. Our solar window roller shades are made from vinyl-coated polyester yarns that come in many stylish patterns and colors with UV blockage ranging from 80% to 99%. Best Window Screen’s vinyl solar roller shades can be fabricated with a manual hem-pull-down bar or can operate on a continuous loop beaded chain with a chain tensioner. If you wonder whether you can afford solar roller shades for your windows, give Best Window Screen a call. Our customer service reps will be happy to discuss our many solar fabrics with you, some of which are not posted on our website, and/or send you a sample of the solar fabric you are interested in. We’ll give you a quote if you furnish us with window dimensions. Give us a call first at 866-810-5376; then, compare prices. If you buy elsewhere, you may be paying too much.
It appears our winter storms may finally be over and warmer days are ahead of us. Now is the perfect time to clean your window and door screens. Why bother cleaning window screens you ask? Cleaning window screens is essential to remove dust trapped inside the screen mesh. When high winds hit screens, the screen ripples causing a whipping effect. This whipping effect causes the screen to release fine trapped dust in the mesh and thrusts it against the glass of the window. With time, this effect can cause fine sandblasting on your window glass giving the window a filmy appearance that will not wash off. The best way to avoid sandblasting of your windows is to wash your window screens at least once a year, particularly those of us who live in the southwest where high winds are a regular occurrence.
There are several ways to wash your window screens, but the quickest way to wash screens is to remove them from one side of the house at a time and line them up against a wall under a porch—assembly line style—or wash them inside the bath tub. If you wash them in the bath tub, you may want to label the screen with the corresponding window with a pencil in order to return the screen to the same window after cleaning it. Use warm water and any screen cleaning solution or good old soap and water or fresh smelling Pine Sol in warm water. To vacuum, attach a brush attachment to the vacuum cleaner and vacuum both sides of the screen; or to brush clean use a nylon brush to gently scrub off the dust or grime on both sides of the screen. Be careful not to press too hard fraying the screens or causing them to bulge out of the channel, but apply enough pressure to remove any debris on the screen. Once you have removed the dust from both sides of the screen, use the spray hose to wet the screen; then scrub both sides of each screen using the nylon brush and soapy warm water. Be sure to clean the corners and the edges of your screen with your brush, gently scrubbing evenly to remove the grime evenly throughout the screen. Then, rinse the suds off with the spray water hose and dry the screens with an old towel or allow the screens to dry in the sun while you move on to wash the next screen.

Fiberglass screen is the standard screen used on most window screens unless the window screens are custom made. Manufactured by Phifer, fiberglass screens project good outward visibility and allow good ventilation. Fiberglass screen is easy to install and is very long lasting…unless you have small children or pet cats or dogs. Standard fiberglass screen is not made to withstand abuse from small children and pets. Toddlers can be hard on these screens because they usually lean and pound on door screens pushing them out of the channel and eventually fraying the ends. Pets inevitably jump up onto the screens scratching them and breaking the fibers, particularly during warm weather when people tend to open their doors and windows. How can you safeguard your existing fiberglass screen doors if you already have fiberglass sliding door screens?
Pet grills make the best screen protectors. Attaching pet grills to your aluminum frame door extends the life of the screen by protecting it from children and pets. However, pet grills do not protect fiberglass screens from another hazard—weathering. If you live in arid climate, with time fiberglass screens tend to get hard and brittle from direct sun exposure. Over a period of time, exposure to the sun wears off the material coating on the screen, leaving patches of white fiberglass strands exposed. The good news is that even though sun exposure eventually takes its toll on fiberglass, it will last many, many years before it wears out.
BestWindowScreen.com carries pet grills that are made to fit their sliding screen doors. Besides sliding door screens, we also carry pet grills for hinged door screens. Our pet grills come in three colors: bronze, silver, white. Call BestWindowScreen.com at 1-866-810-5376 if you are in the market for new screens or pet grills. We sell quality brand name screens at bargain prices, and our customer reps are very friendly. If you buy elsewhere, you may be paying too much.
Very few things in life have benefits without disadvantages and screens are no different. An established fact is that fiberglass is the standard screen used for most window screens and door screens. The reason fiberglass is so commonly used is because fiberglass is durable, least expensive, and comes in different mesh sizes, strand diameters, and colors. Fiberglass screens are made of strands of fiberglass that are woven criss-cross into a mesh pattern. The mesh is then dipped into vinyl coating with additives to give the material some fire and weather resistant properties. However, when shopping online and considering screen products sold outside the United States, consumers need to be careful that cheaper brands of screen do not omit these coatings to make their material less expensive, because eliminating this process makes the screen less durable. Keep in mind that screens sold abroad may not meet U.S. building and fire codes. Buyers beware.
BestWindowScreen.com carries only quality screens to sell at bargain prices. Our window screens and door screens can be fabricated in fiberglass or any other screen to suit your specific needs. Give us a call, 1-866-810-5376, and allow us assist you in selecting screens to suit your pocketbook and needs.
Although summer days in some southwestern states sometimes reach three-digit numbers, the southwest winters are wonderfully mild. Officially winter is just a few days away and while most states in the United States are under snow, the southwest is enjoying the best weather in the country. Now is the perfect climate for those of us who reap the benefits of very mild winters to take advantage of the outdoors to work in comfortable weather replacing tattered, torn window screens and door screens. Energy from the sun energizes one to be industrious, and fresh air motivates us to accomplish our chores in comfort allowing us to enjoy the day.
In the process of circulating fresh air in the home, we revitalize our souls by taking in the smells from the outside which may consist of burning logs from nearby chimneys to floral fragrances from one’s garden or just fresh clean air. However, this is not the only benefit to aerating your home. Certain websites have written about the benefits of circulating fresh air in one’s home by reminding us that winterizing our homes (insulating a home from winter drafts) can trap pollutants in our home and make it more difficult for fresh air to circulate. To minimize the negative effects of winterizing our home, Prevention magazine advises to open bedroom windows for 5 to 10 minutes after waking up in the morning and again before climbing into bed at night—enough time to let carbon dioxide out and oxygen in without chilling the rest of the house.
BestWindowScreen.com offers you a wide variety of screens from their fine selection of window screens and door screens. If placing orders over the computer is too impersonal for you, Best Window Screen customer service reps invite you to call and inquire about the cost to replace your screens. In view of today’s economy, we do our best to get you the least expensive but yet most effective screen to suit your needs and pocketbook. Contractors are always welcomed to call us, particularly if they seek discounts on large quantity items or special orders.
Winter is moving in but a few southern states are still experiencing relatively mild weather with temperatures around the low 70s and high 60s. Many homeowners and apartment dwellers would love to open up their windows to let the cool fresh air in during midday but are unable to do so. What keeps them from doing this? Some older homes and apartments have windows so outdated that they do not have screens on their windows, because those screens are no longer manufactured. Screens are essential for maintaining a certain degree of security in your home like keeping out stray pets and pesky flying insects such as bees or wasps or preventing your cats or dogs from leaping out the window. If this is the case with your home or apartments, you might consider getting custom built replacement screens. However, if you are an apartment renter, consider a temporary solution by purchasing adjustable window screens. Adjustable window screens are inexpensive, can go with you when you move out, and when no longer needed can be easily sold in garage sales. These screens install in seconds without the use of tools or fasteners and can be used to cover wood, metal, or vinyl windows for either single or double hung windows. Each unit comes completely assembled so all you do is place the screen in the window opening and adjust the width. The screens have a 5/16 inch mill-finished frame with gray square cut corners, which can also be upgraded to a white frame with matching corners, and a charcoal fiberglass screen wire with a black retainer spline securing the screen. BestWindowScreens.com carries several adjustable sizes from which to select. However, with the purchase of 12 adjustable window screens, we can custom build these adjustable window screens to your specifications. If replacing your window screens is not an option, then consider using adjustable window screens.
Our customer service representatives are friendly and go out of their way to assist you with your screening needs. If you live in an old home and want to preserve the appearance of your windows, we manufacture custom built window screens for outdated windows. Perhaps we can give you a quote on permanent custom made window screens at a savings, particularly for apartment owners. Don’t be afraid to ask us for a quote. We are ready to answer any questions you may have. Call us at 866-810-5376.
Now that autumn is here, the weather outside is so inviting. The weather is still warm yet not too hot. The leaves are turning colors as cool breezes brush them off the trees and sweep them across our lawns. In fact, you might find yourself keeping the doors and windows open more now than during the summer months. Why? Because it’s perfect weather to save on energy by opening your windows and doors to enjoy the wonderful outdoor cool breeze. Aerating the home removes stale odors from inside the house while saving you energy on electricity. Now is the time to replace weather beaten, torn screens around your house.
Best Window Screen has an assortment of top quality screens with sturdy window and door frames. What makes our sliding screen doors a higher grade than regular sliding screen doors bought at your local hardware store? The difference is our frames and choice of screen. Our frames are constructed with extruded aluminum. Extruded aluminum frames are built sturdier and heavier than standard roll aluminum frame doors, which can easily bend. All our door frames are half inch wide but vary in width according to the level of extruded aluminum frame. This means that these doors are more durable than the roll aluminum framed screen doors. We carry three assortments of extruded aluminum frames. These sliding door screens come standard with charcoal-colored fiberglass screen mesh, but for a small cost can all be upgraded to solar screen, aluminum wire screen, pet screen or super screen. The door screens are made to your specified measurements and are available in almond, bronze, desert sand, silver, and white. The handle and lock on these door screens come with warranty according to each model. These doors are equipped with adjustable steel rollers to resist rusting and are also upgradeable to a Coastal Package, which includes stainless steel rollers, screws, and latch hardware suited for coastal climates where normal doors will rust and fail to operate. Browse through our fine collection of extruded sliding door screens. Come shop our store. You’ll be happy you did. We offer very competitive prices.
For the most accuracy in preparing your screen measurements, click on the window diagram below. Once the picture enlarges, print the diagram and write the measurement next to each number according to the instructions below. If the screen is going to be mounted inside a window frame, to secure the screen in place, allow 5/16 of an inch all around the window for the encasement clips on both sides of the window, as well as above and below the window. If the screen is going to be flush with the outside wall, you may want to add ½ inch to 1 inch all the way around the screen, according to your choice. The number of encasement clips around the screen is also a matter of preference.
When measuring the height of the window:
1. Measure from the left lower corner to the top corner (as indicated by arrow no. 1);
2. Measure the middle of the window from the outer edge frame at the bottom of the window to the outer edge of the center of the arch (as indicated by arrow no. 2); and
3. Finally, measure from the right lower corner of window to the top corner (as indicated by arrow no. 3 in the above drawing). Record the measurements next to the number designated for that area.
When measuring the width of the window:
Measure all the way to the outside edges of the window frame (as indicated by the arrows) and measure all three levels (top, middle, and bottom) to ensure accuracy. Record the measurements next to the number designated for that area.
Measuring the thickness of the screen frame:
Finally, measure and record the thickness of the frame near the bottom corner. (See Tips on Measuring Windows—Measuring the Thickness of a Box Frame at this link: http://www.bestwindowscreen.com/page/384818203).
There are five types of screens recommended for patio and pool enclosures: Patio & Pool Screen, Florida Glass Screen, No-See-Um Screening-Tiny Mesh, Tiny Super Screen®, and Super Screen®. Each type of screen has its own uniqueness and properties that make it suitable for outdoor use. Much has to do with the climate you live in and your surrounding terrain. Consider the following information on each screen and decide for yourself which patio or pool screens are most suitable for your personal use.
Patio & Pool Fiberglass Screen is a heavy-duty fiberglass mesh especially well-suited for outdoor patios and screen rooms. It is ideal for larger openings where extra strength is needed. This sturdy 18 x 14 mesh with .013 diameter material provides tough screen durability under any type of weather and comes in standard charcoal color.
Florida Glass Privacy Screen consists of the same heavy-mesh used in Pool & Patio Fiberglass Screen with the addition of a plastic laminate to protect against the elements. The lamination closes all openings completely so no water or air passes through the screen to keep rain, sand, and snow out. This screen is often used in the bottom portions of pool and patio enclosures to keep grass clippings out and offer privacy. Residents of the southwest, where the terrain is desert-like, use this type of screen around the bottom of their pool enclosures to keep out sand during windy season.
No-See-Um Screening-Tiny Mesh with 20 x 20 per square inch, .013 in diameter, is a tightly woven fiberglass screen that allows good ventilation and visibility and provides some daytime privacy while protecting against tiny, irritating insects and bugs.
Tiny Super Screen®, with 17 x 20 mesh, is a heavy duty, vinyl-coated polyester that is so strong that wind blown debris and falling objects bounce off the screen. This screen keeps out tiny insects such as flies and mosquitoes and blocks out 50% of harmful UV rays while still letting in the good rays to help your plants grow. Tiny Super Screen® is designed for extra strength and durability for large openings up to 10 ft. in width.
Super Screen® consists of 16 x 14 mesh per square inch for clearer viewing, while it blocks out 30% of UV rays. Super Screen® is comprised of a heavy duty, vinyl-coated polyester that is compounded with biocide which gives pool screens and patio screens resistance to bacteria, fungus and growth of mildew which is characteristic to humid areas. UV tolerant properties of Super Screen® give pool screens and patio screens in dry climates resistance to fading and tearing, thus eliminating flaking and brittleness caused by dry climate and daily exposure to the sun. This screen is resistant to damage caused by pets, and it is the only screen that is truly fade and tear proof!
